French Portico Clock
Back
with knifeblade pendulum suspension
ca. 1860
This clock was originally made from alabaster. because alabaster is a porous
and volatile material,
it is prone to colouring. In moist environments it can become red/brown, instead
of its original ivory.
This clock also suffered from that condition. It has been laquered and
shellacced in white,
because its movement is of supreme quality and condition.
